CHRISTO POPOFF AND HIS ART

Born in Bulgaria, Christo Popoff has always possessed a keen interest in fine art. Encouraged by both his parents and teachers, he began at an early age to sketch and paint the beautiful, romantic towns of his native country. Educated at the Universities of Sofia and Heidelberg, he also received extensive art education and training in Bulgaria, Germany, Brazil and the United States.
Following the Second World War, Christo Popoff lived Europe, South and North America. His paintings reflect the numerous impressions he accumulated in those cities and villages where he stays.

A unique beauty is depicted in his sunbaked landscapes. His palette knife technique, with strong strokes, only suggests detail. The essentials of every landscape are captured with the mastery of an artist who knows and loves the places he presents.
In this series of paintings, “Sunny Bulgaria,” he confirms his mastery and his strong sense for the architectural structure of rustic, romantic locales with their narrow streets and old, red-brown roofed house. It is the result of Christo Popoff’s dedication over the last ten years in portraying his native country.

Christo Popoff’s artworks, among them the series of landscape “Europe,” “Romantic Brazil,” “America’s Southwest,” “The Island of Madeira,” and “The Beauty of Portugal,” have been exhibited in Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada and the United States, where they received critical acclaim and represented in numerous public and private collections.
